connecting with the viewer

There is so much noise in the market these days that it becomes imperative for corporate video to find a way to cut through. That's my specialty. Here are a few examples of my corporate work...

When Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina launched their new iPhone app, they wanted to let their subscribers know that it was simple and that it could make their life more active and more fun. So they asked me to produce and direct a series of short videos for social media from their idea. Here are a couple of them:

SEAWORLD:

When SeaWorld came under fire for confining their animals, they decided to dramatically revamp their parks. So they hired me to create a “teaser” video to get the press interested in what they were up to. Their only restriction was that I was not permitted to give any details at all about what the changes would be! So I created a mood to “get them into the tent”:

As part of their Live Fearless image campaign, Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC asked me to make several videos to celebrate moments in people's lives when they chose to be fearless. One of my favorites was this one, about Chris Rosati's response to being diagnosed with ALS. It tells an imspirational story in a way that reinforces the feeling that BCBSNC is a company with a heart.

heil sound:

Heil Sound wanted the world to know how the actual sound mixers on concerts feel about their microphones (they like em), so they sent me to a Wallflowers concert. I took a small camera and an audio recorder and no crew at all and came back with some new friends and this story…

heil sound:

When a big movie called Hunger Games was released, the Heil Sound people noticed that it featured one of their unique microphones in a key scene. But they had no rights to clips and no connections to the studio, just a picture of their microphone. They emailed me the picture and I made a simple, effective video to draw attention to the selection. And here it is...

NC state:

Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC held a statewide contest between the major colleges and needed videos to play on the scoreboard at their basketball games, starring their teams' mascots. Here's the NC State one, including a rare glimpse of Mister Woof in his cubicle...

Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC wanted to encourage their customers to live healthy lives. So they decided to send them a series of video health tips. They got a cool guy (I mean a really cool guy) and we had a fun day at Hendrick Motorsports making a bunch of them in a couple hours of his very valuable time. Here are a couple of them…

And here's another health tip, this one with Mia Hamm...

Here's a quick one at UNC featuring their football coach, Larry Fedora (in NC, college coaches are huge celebrities)...

BLue cross blue shield of NC:

At Blue Cross, the executives wanted to thank their employees for participating in community service volunteering efforts. They wanted it to be about the employees, not the executives. Seemed like the best approach was to hear from the people who are helped by these efforts, so I made this...

A sports story that's not about sports. I asked Coach P of Duke Women's Basketball about the harsh times when she took over the team and started failing. She told the story of her longtime hero showing up at her door to save the day. Her schedule was super tight so we shot it in about 20 minutes and it won an Addy Award...

I might be the first guy to ever tell Coach Roy Williams of UNC Basketball that I wasn't really interested in whether he wins the game or not. But I came away with a beautiful story about the discussion he had with his wife Wanda over the kitchen table when they decided whether he should take the job at UNC. Here’s the story…

That will give you an idea of the type of work I do. And there are plenty more examples where these came from.
